Letters relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Major Downes, 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance. These letters written between 15 May 1915 to 21 January 1916. These letters cover: The armistice to bury the dead on the 24 of May; his opinions of Australian soldiers; his description of the landscape at Gallipoli; his living and working conditions on Gallipoli; the situation of the Australian Army Medial Corps on Mudros during may 1915 and his opinion of the evacuation of Gallipoli
