Letters from Ronald Lennox Henderson to his family, 1914-1915
Letters relating to the First World War service of Captain Ronald Lennox Henderson, Australian Army Medical Corps. The letters, written to his daughter and mother describe Henderson's journey to Egypt aboard RMS Orontes, including a stop at Melbourne, and the journey between Australia and Colombo. In his letters he describes the people he has met on board the ship, including thirteen men going to England for commission and a number of Italian Reservists travelling to Italy to join the Italian Army. He also discusses people aboard the ship who are suffering side effects from vaccinations against typhoid. His fourth letter, written at Mudros, describes the 2nd Australian Stationary Hospital where he was serving and discusses seeing many of his classmates from Edinburgh University in the Medical Corps. He also discusses the aftermath of the Battle of Lone Pine.
