Transcript of diary of Barton [possibly Frank Barton Bongers], 1916
Transcript of diary pages relating to the service of Barton (believed to be 48, Lance Corporal Frank Barton Bongers, 42nd Australian Infantry Battalion). The diary, written between 14 and 31 December 1916, describes the Commissioning Ceremony on 15 December. It also describes Bongers' travels through England and Scotland, where he visited family and friends and did some sightseeing. Frank Barton Bongers was killed in action in France on 14 February 1917. The diary pages were transcribed by Mary Catherine White in Toowoomba. A postscript reads "copy of part of Barton's letter for Nell to read and burn".
