Parton, Horace A, (Corporal, b.1891 - d.1943)
Description
Handwritten original letters written by Corporal Horace A Parton to his family while on active service with the 5 Battalion Headquarters. Parton was a signal runner and describes in his correspondence the offensives at Pozieres, Ypres, Bapaume and Messines. Parton also discusses his support for Prime Minister William Hughes' 1916 referendum on conscription. The collection also includes a bound transcript of the letters; 3 Soldier's paybooks; a map of Le Barque; and 7 photographs relating to HA Parton and personnel in 5th Battalion.
