Description

Letters relating to the First World War service of 622 Private Herbert Vincent Reynolds, 1st Field Ambulance. These letters were written by Herbert and his mother between 2 October 1914 and 19 December 1916. In his letters he covers: The voyage over to Egypt, remarking on the restriction of going to shore at Albany and Colombo; the slowness of the mail service; the conditions in camp and the places he visits in Egypt; his movement and some of the action at Gallipoli and his time in England at the end of 1915.

Also included is a letter from May Stones to her cousin Francis Reynolds (Herbert's mother) which mentions her son 437 Pte Ellis Andrew Stones and one of the two boys she had boarding with her before the war - 422 Private William Walter Highton Elliot. His brother 2487A Henry 'Harry' James Elliot is mentioned by Herbert as 'Harry' in a few letters.
