In his letters he covers: The voyage over to Egypt, remarking on the restriction of going to shore at Albany and Colombo; the slowness of the mail service; the conditions in camp and the places he visits in Egypt; his movement and some of the action at Gallipoli and his time in England at the end of 1915.

Also included is a letter from May Stones to her cousin Francis Reynolds (Herbert's mother) which mentions her son 437 Pte Ellis Andrew Stones and one of the two boys she had boarding with her before the war - 422 Private William Walter Highton Elliot.
