Photographs relating to Lieutenant Ian Thomas Roy Treloar, HMAS Sydney. From Surrey Hills, Victoria, Treloar began serving in the Royal Australian Navy in 1933. From 1937, he was seconded to the Royal Navy for training, only returning to Australia after the declaration of the Second World War. Lt Treloar was serving aboard HMAS Sydney II when, on 20 November 1941, all 645 personnel were lost following an engagement with the German cruiser Kormoran off the coast of Western Australia. He was 22 years old.
Photographs include two informal portraits of Lt Treloar; three copies of a portrait of Lt Treloar with his fiancee VX17025 Elva Irene MacMillan; one informal group portrait of Lt Treloar, Lt Thomas Edgar Davies, Lt Galler, Lt Gray taken in Greece 25 December 1940.
