Description
Handwritten copy of diary relating to the First World War service of 165a Private Eric Giles Miller, 43rd Battalion. The diary entries are dated between 22 October 1914 and 23 June 1917, and tell of Miller's service, including: his embarkation, news of the battle between the Sydney and Emden, his journey to Egypt, training in Egypt, fighting in the trenches at Gallipoli, illness and convalescence in England, and fighting on the Western Front. In his diary entries, Miller also relates stories of the conditions, his pastimes, and people that he interacts with. Additionally, there is a detailed four-page account of the Battle of Hamel on 4 July 1918. The notebook also contains several sketches and children's drawings.
