[Sound recording] Descriptive of our experiences at Hill 63
Recording of the song titled, 'Descriptive of our experiences at Hill 63', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. This is a parody written by an anonymous lyricist to the tune of 'Back home in Tennesee', a song written by William Jerome and Walter Donaldson. The underlying tune used has an alternative name of 'Just try to picture me back home in Tennesee'. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin as vocalist (tenor), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 17 January 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, the producer of this recording, notes: 'This is written in a major key and has a sad and wistful tone. It is very sweet. Parodies are very effective because they are placed in date and time. Lots of sentiment in this parody and irony is also present. Great song and builds familiarity through repetition.'
