[Sound recording] 'Till the boys come home (keep the home fires burning)
Recording of the song titled 'Till the boys come home (keep the home fires burning)', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by Lena Gilbert Ford, with music composed by Ivor Novello. Produced by Chris Latham, with David Hidden as vocalist and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 13 July 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a clever song that is very melodic. It is jingoistic in parts but then full of sentiment. It is reassuring as you know where the melody is going to go and can almost predict it. This song uses a memorable rhythmic device, known as a hook. It can be played in the living room.'
