[Sound recording] On the staff
Recording of the song titled, 'On the Staff', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by Clifford Grey with music composed by Ivor Novello. Produced by Chris Latham, with David Hidden as vocalist (baritone), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 23 March 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a clever and totally perfect song. It is perfectly made. The satire has a perfect cut to it. It is catchy and everyone can sing it. This song uses a memorable rhythmic device, known as a hook. It is the epitome of charm and very funny. It is the perfect getting everyone laughing song. Once you hear it, you feel a sense of familiarity with it.'
