[Sound recording] Heroes of the Dardanelles
Recording of the song titled, 'Heroes of the Dardanelles', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Music and lyrics written by Reginald Alberto Agrati Stoneham. Produced by Chris Latham, with David Hidden as vocalist (baritone), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 23 March 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is very melodramatic and resembles silent movie music. It is pure propaganda and has come out of an opera. It is a professional song with a vocal range that extends an octave and a fourth. There are trumpet tunes in parts with references to “Australia will be there” and “It’s a long way to Tipperary”. It is very national anthem sounding.'
