[Sound recording] I didn't want to do it, but I did
Recording of the song titled, 'I didn't want to do it, but I did', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by Worton David with music composed by Bert Lee. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin as vocalist (tenor), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 24 May 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, the producer of this recording, notes: 'The lyrics of this song have a double entrendre that we don't quite understand these days which makes it hard to know how to read. The singer is terrified of women but this is meant to be a joke. It has a cute, catchy tone but is just so odd. Really liked recording this song. This song plays to the crowd and is very funny. There is no doubt that this would have been a good music hall song.'
