[Sound recording] I want to go home
Recording of the song titled 'I want to go home', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Music and lyrics written by Gitz Rice, a Canadian who served during the First World War. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin as vocalist and Alan Hicks on piano. These works were performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This song has a good melody that you can easily remember. It is a patter song which means that it tells a story quickly with one note to a syllable. It then changes to become more fluid and becomes slower. There is something effective about it that evokes a feeling of "I just want to get out of here". This song is an absolute cracker and it is easy to see a room full of soldiers singing it.'
