[Sound recording] Annie Laurie
Recording of the song titled, 'Annie Laurie', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Produced by Chris Latham, with David Hidden as vocalist (baritone), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney on 18 July 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'One of the most beautiful tunes. This song is performed with a very light voice and is iconic in Scottish, Irish and Welsh culture. Anyone in the Australian Army with these backgrounds would have been reminded of their heritage. Features a float, where the voice doesn't get louder while singing high notes. It is also marked on the music to sing softly with the high notes. This could be sung by a good amateur or as a professional. Astonished by how beautiful it is. Absent love archetype which resonates with the soldier being far away from a girl.'
