[Sound recording] If you were the only girl in the world
Description
Recording of the song titled, 'If you were the only girl in the world', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. The lyrics were written by Clifford Grey with music composed by Nat D Ayer. Produced by Chris Latham, with Andrew Goodwin and Christina Wilson as vocalists and Alan Hicks on piano. This work was performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a fantastic tune and a beautiful song. The melody features slow minums with large intervals. The octave thing is beautiful and the song can be performed at different tempos. It has an almost Rachmanioff sound in parts. The lyrics feature deep sentiment.'
