[Sound recording] Torchlight parade march
Recording of the instrumental march titled 'Torchlight parade march', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Music and lyrics written by Thomas Bulch, who enlisted for homefront service during the First World War. Produced by Chris Latham, with Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Flat Rock Studios, Sydney, on 26 June 2018. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.
Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This piece of music is hard. The left hand strides, meaning that it jumps around to find notes. It is an entirely competent march in 6/8 time which is a little unusual. It is written in a binary format of A B A where the B section is slightly more reflective. The march has been written for brass band and this version has been squashed down to piano so that you almost have to be a machine to play it. It is a very tricky piece.'
