Informal portrait of NX15705 Corporal (Cpl) John Hurst Edmondson VC's mother, Maude Elizabeth Edmondson, seated on a front verandah. Cpl Edmondson was the first Australian to be awarded the Victoria Cross in Second World War for his part in a counter-attack against enemy troops at Tobruk in April 1941. Cpl Edmondson died of wounds he sustained in the attack.
