Description

Letters relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Colonel Harold Edward 'Pompey' Elliott, 7th Infantry Battalion. Some of the letters were censored by Pompey, and later his daughter Violet prior to donation removing details of a personal nature. The letters cover October 1914-December 1914 detailing; handing over the Broadmeadows camp; the journey aboard the S.S Hororata; passing through Albany and Colombo; anchoring off Port Suez; ancoring off Port Said; the train from Alexandria to Cairo; conditions at Mena Camp.
