Evans, Francis (Ken) (Private, b.1884 - d.1917)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 2399 Private Francis (Ken) Evans, 51st Australian Infantry Battalion, Australia and France, 1915-1928. Collection consists of 30 letters and one certificate covering the period immediately prior to Evans' enlistment in 1916 through to 1928. There are 17 letters written by Evans to various family members between 1915 and when he was killed in action in October 1917 in Belgium. The remaining letters and certificate are from the period after Ken's death and include letters from superior officers to his family, legal documentation and a probate cheque.
This collection is closely linked to AWM2017.1366.1, letters and documents relating to Captain David Gerald Evans, Ken's brother. Both were killed in action within weeks of each other in 1917. AWM2017.1366.1 includes condolence letters written to the Evans family regarding the brothers, as well as a modern history and transcript of the letters in both collections.
