Collection relating to the First World War service of Captain David Gerald Evans MC, 8th Battalion AIF, Australia, Egypt, France and Belgium, 1914-1922.

Collection consists of:
- 1 typed transcript and short history of the collections of both David Gerald Evans and Francis (Ken) Evans
- 70 letters written by Gerald spanning approx. 1914-1917 and written from Australia, Egypt, France and Belgium during his service
- 1 small notebook kept by Gerald (possibly in 1916)
- 13 letters, certificates and citations relating to awards and despatches mentioning Gerald (including the Military Cross awarded to Gerald for action in May 1917)
- 2 original cardboard postal tubes used to send government documents for despatches
- 13 letters of condolence relating to both Gerald and his brother Francis (Ken) who was also killed in action within 4 weeks of Gerald's death
- 2 letters written to Ken about the death of Gerald by their father John
- 10 post death letters and official documents relating to Gerald
- 6 miscellaneous letters (written to or about Gerald including some by his father and sisters)
- 3 letters relating to the death of Gerald's friend Sergeant Thomas Wilfred Clifford (Bill) Usherwood
- 6 photographs (from 1915 and 1916)
- 1 copy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare anootated with Evans' name and the date "24-9-15".
- 1 copy of Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam
- 1 Roll of Officers of the 7th and 8th Battalions travelling on the HMT "Megantic".

This collection is closely linked to AWM2017.1366.5, letters and documents relating to Francis (Ken) Evans, Gerald's older brother. It is recommended that both collections be examined by interested parties.
