Page 9 of an album of photographs either taken or collected by Roy Cecil Phillipps (later Squadron Leader R.C Phillipps MC & Bar DFC) when employed by the pastoralist firm Connor, Doherty & Durack Ltd in the Kimberley region of Western Australia from 1912 until his enlistment in the AIF in April 1915. The photographs were sent to his mother in Perth, Mrs Cecil R. Phillipps, who arranged them in an album and wrote the accompanying captions. Images are of:"Droving in the north" (album caption); a group of Aboriginal men wearing traditional war paint and traditional outfits, holding spears and shields. An Aboriginal stockman is mounted on his horse behind the group with other Aboriginal men standing around the group (see P08151.009.002); "Breaking in mules" (album caption); Informal outdoor portrait of five Aboriginal men. The men wear traditional loincloths. Their chests show signs of traditional tribal scarring. The men also wear traditional natural ochre body paint (see P08151.009.004); Horses at Argyle Downs Station, and an unidentified pastoralist poses beside an anthill in the Kimberleys.
