Description

AJRP Sub-Series name: Post-surrender Rabaul material received from HQ 8 Military District. This item is a summary of proposals about the formation of Japanese camps in Rabaul. It discusses main objectives of the operation of Japanese camps, procedures to set up camps, administrative structure of each camp, locations of communication units and compounds for war criminals, etc. Former Japanese servicemen were divided into ten camps, which were located in Tauril, Kokopo, Tobera, Akane, Nishiboekiten, Gazelle, Tabuna, Kagamihara, Toma and Minamizaki. This document also provides guidlines for the management of personnel affairs relevant to the formation of camps. For instance, the number of administrative staff was to be minimised so that more personnel could be engaged in food production.
