Letters relating to the First World War Service of Chaplain William McKenzie, 4th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force. In his 1914 letters to Salvation Army Commissioner James Hay, McKenzie relates details of his embarkation and sea voyage, including his leading of services, meetings, games, bands and musical concerts aboard the ship. Upon his arrival to Egypt, McKenzie writes about camping in the shadow of the pyramids, sightseeing, the wide spread of venereal diseases among the troops and the actions he took to fight it, personal counselling, and hospital visits. Many of McKenzie's letters were published in the Salvation Army magazine, the War Cry.
