Description

Diary relating to the Second World War service of 403397 Flying Officer Clifford Timothy O’Riordan, No. 460 Squadron, RAAF. This diary has entries dated between 26 February 1942 and 11 April 1943. In it, O’Riordan records his experiences of being a gunner in bombing operations in the Second World War. He includes details of the bombing missions he was involved in, including those on Cologne, Hamburg, Bremen, Frankfort, Dusseldorf, Berlin, and Lorient. O’Riordan also writes about aspects of his day-to-day life on airbases in England, including training exercises, accidents on the airfield, parties, and assisting with court martial proceedings in his capacity as a lawyer. He also records the occasions when many of his fellow airmen did not return after operations, and shares his feelings about home, life, death and remembrance.
