Description

Letters relating to the Second World War service of Warrant Officer Class 2 Thomas Rampton Hunter, 2/1 Australian Army Topographical Survey Company. This file consists of letters written by Thomas Rampton Hunter to his mother, Beatrice Hunter and his sister, Jean. In his letters, Thomas describes the landscapes and cultures of the places that he visits, including Perth, India, Palestine, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem. He also includes accounts of small events that occurred in his life, such as day trips while on leave, taking photographs, having to get his hair clipped off because of the dust, seeing the Palestine Symphony Orchestra, and editing a publication called the ‘Sentinel’.

Also included in this collection is an account of a leave party to Petra written in 1941 by Thomas and his friend, William Robertson Emmett, for ‘The Argus’ newspaper, a postcard depicting Aleppo, and correspondence relating to Thomas’s application for post war employment on an island in the South West Pacific in 1943-1944.
