Memoir relating to the Second World War service of TX50 Patrick Joseph Lattin, 2/12th Australian Infantry Battalion. Lattin was a captured by the Germans as a prisoner of war in May 1941, remaining in captivity until 1945. In his retrospective account, Lattin tells of his experiences of being a prisoner of war in Italy, Poland, and Germany, including several humorous events in Gruppignago Camp (Camp 57) near Udine Italy. From Italy, he was moved to Poland, where he worked in a sugar mill, followed by a paper mill. As the Russian forces advanced, Lattin and his fellow prisoners were marched to Germany, where they spent some time in a concentration camp and witnessed the very poor treatment of Jewish and Russian prisoners. Lattin the records details of his later forced march, sickness, eventual freedom, and return to Australia.
