Description
Studio portrait of NX40934 Sergeant (Sgt) Arthur John Ryan, 2/18 Battalion. Sgt Ryan enlisted on 9 July 1940 at Gunnehdah, NSW. He was taken prisioner of war (POW) at Malaya while serving with 2/12 Battalion. Sgt Ryan was discharged on 2 April 1946. Front of image has the personal message: 'To the best of all Mothers. Jack'.
The reverse reads:
'Somewhere In Malaya'
Taken on Mothers' Day 1941.
As you will see - this is no oil painting - I took ten minutes off duty and was taken - in my old shirt etc. What's more - as it was late afternoon - my beard was beginning to - show. - However - I hope you like it -
