Diary of Edward Lloyd Fleming, January- September 1945
Diary relating to the Second World War service of 318689 Flying Officer Edward Lloyd Fleming, 550 Squadron.
This diary has entries written between 23 January and 30 September 1945, and contains details of Edward Lloyd Fleming’s experiences as a pilot in the Royal Australian Air Force. Some of these experiences include undertaking bombing training, flying a cross-country flight in which one of his crewmembers became unconscious, getting lost on a flight, practicing corkscrews, being posted to 550 Squadron, and celebrating VE and VJ Days. Fleming was also given many periods of leave, and spent it travelling to various locations in England, Scotland and Ireland. He wrote about his activities in the places he visited, such as sightseeing, attending dances, seeing films at the picture theatres, and forming a friendship with a girl named Betty.
