Description

Album of 74 pages (including inside covers), compiled by NX10979 Gunner (Gnr) Peter Thomas Edgar Sachs, 2/15 Field Regiment. The album contains a mixture of photographs, sketches, newspaper and magazine articles. The images include a mixture of family life (both before and after the Second World War) and military service. There is variety of ephemera and written material related to being a prisoner of war. Other topics include training, travel, recreation and recuperation on return to Australia.

Many of the images are captioned and include the following people: NX34279 Gunner George Napier Sprod, NX6570 Gunner Alan David Ward, NX27998 Bombardier Richard Arthur Howse, NX54420 Sapper Timothy Sexton Cooke, Possibly NX71390 Gunner Robert Stuart Boese or NX32581 Sergeant Harry Wallace Campbell Boese, and NX67885 Sergeant Richard Braithwaite.

A shop assistant prior to enlisting on 20 September 1939, Gnr Sachs was allocated to the 2/15 Field Regiment and travelled to Malaya. He was one of three brothers who enlisted for the Second World War: NX9629 Lieutenant (Lt) John Fritz Sachs MM, NX163744 Gnr Thomas Sachs. These photographs are part of a wider collection of objects related to the service of the Sachs brothers during the Second World War.
