Dummy Hoist 1st Use with M134D view from Bubble Window
Description
A newly installed Hoist/Winch is tested for the first time in theatre on Australian Army CH-47D Chinook A15-202. The test flight with a M134 Mini Gun fitted is conducted in a 50’ hovering position at the recently commissioned FARP (Forward Arming and Refueling Point) at Kandahar Airfield. Captain Jason Otter, C Squadron, 5th Aviation Regiment (5 Avn Regt) later noted: "This piece of equipment was rapidly acquired to enable the aircraft to self recover personnel if a landing was not possible. The footage is taken from the bubble window of 202 looking forward along the internal fuel tank. Note the expended cartridge dump tube from the M134 Mini Gun with the Hoist/Winch above".
