Description

Operation Commando Thunder. "It's about 5.40 in the morning and the boys are about to head out". Chinook flightline filmed (with commentary) by Captain Jason Otter, 5th Aviation Regiment (5 Avn Regt). Captain Otter later noted: Captain (Capt) Naomi "Narmz" Rogusz, Capt Scott Matthey and Sgt Lee Maloney are in the near Chinook [Australian Army Ch-47D Chinook A15-201, far left]. They have prepared and started the aircraft as the Spare should the primary aircraft [A15-106, second from left] have an issue on start. On this occasion the primary aircraft proceeds on mission and the spare is shutdown and readied for a subsequent mission. The three US Chinooks seen running on the Kandahar [Airfield] tarmac will also proceed on this mission. See also AWM2019.311.8.82 to AWM2019.311.8.88 for further footage of this event.
