Re-org
Joseph Passmore was a member of 2 Cavalry Regiment when, on 19 February 2011 in the Mirabad Valley region of Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan, his patrol was fired on by insurgents and Australian Sapper Jamie Larcombe and an Afghan interpreter were killed. Their patrol continued for multiple days and suffered further major contacts and an IED (improvised explosive device) blast.
This painting is based on a photograph taken following a ‘re-org’, where restocking of supplies, refueling and re-organisation of the patrol took place. No further contact was made with the patrol after this point, making it a significant moment in time that the artist wanted to acknowledge. The painting shows the gun on top of the ASLAV at the ‘6 o’clock’ position facing to the back of the vehicle. This position is held when approaching allied positions and symbolises leaving the danger of battle behind.
