Wallet 1 of 1 - Papers relating to the Korean War service of 314 Lieutenant General Rudolph Bierwirth, British Commonwealth Forces Korea
This wallet contains twelve letters and messages of commendation from ambassadors in Tokyo and senior military officials to Lieutenant General Rudolph Bierwirth, following the conclusion of his service as Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the British Commonwealth Forces Korea (BCFK). Bierwirth succeeded Lieutenant General Henry Wells as C-in-C of BCFK in 1954, and returned to Australia in July 1956.
This wallet also contains a gift of Japanese calligraphy on rice paper from Rear Admirals K. Hara and K. [Kannosuke] Oguni of the Japanese Imperial Navy, and a copy of a minute from the ANZAM [Australia, New Zealand and Malaya] Defence Committee.
