Description

The 4th Battalion, RAR/NZ (ANZAC) this week remembered the men of the Battalion who would not be returning to Australia with them later this month. At a memorial service held among the rubber trees in front of the Battalion Headquarters, the Australians and New Zealanders of the unit prayed for the 19 men killed during the tour in Vietnam and remembered also their families. The Commanding Officer, Lt Col L. R. Greville of Hamilton, Qld, addressed the men, praising their actions during their tour and asking them during their time of reunion with their families to remember the families whose sons or fathers would not be returning. The honour roll of the Battalion was read by the RSM, Last Post was played and the traditional two minutes silence was observed. Reveille was then sounded, the Australian and New Zealand flags again flew high and the ANZAC Battalion carried on with its preparations to return home. (Also identified: RSM WO1 A. C. Toghill of Redcliffe, Qld; NZ Chaplain M. Vercoe of Fielding, NZ; Aust Chaplain I. Graham of Sydney, NSW).
