Diggers in big fire fight DPR/TV/1111
Australian soldiers in Vietnam this week had their two most successful contacts of the year so far with enemy forces. A troop of Bravo Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, supported by a section of infantry of the Task Force Defence Platoon, the mortar section of the 5th Battalion, and an engineer from the 1st Field Squadron, night ambushed an estimated 50 enemy, and the Australians followed this up the next day with a further contact. A total of 20 enemy were killed and a further five wounded for no Australian casualties. More could have been killed, but the bodies were recovered by the enemy. The troop commander, Captain Tom Arrowsmith, 26, married, of Campbelltown, NSW, directed the contacts. Captain Arrowsmith returned with his men to the Task Force base at Nui Dat today and had this to say about the actions.
