Description

Original caption: "ABC/TV Camera News Crew. Hobart 3/12/63. Neil Davis (cameraman), Peter Donnelly (assistant on sound) filming ABC Announcer Ken Short interviewing ABC Radio's Blue Hills personalities. Nellie Lamport "Grannie" and the author of "Blue Hills" Gwen Plumb (middle) in Hobart's Cat and Fiddle Square during lunch time. Note; 47 on the case is ABC Hobart's 1st film sound camera F47. The American Cinevoice Auricon. The filmsound was recorded optically - exposed on the edge of the film inside the camera. The Sound Amplifier (hidden) received the signal from the microphone, and the modulated signal was then passed on to the camera. The box between the cameraman's legs is the 12 volt lead acid battery (Varley Aircraft type) whose power had to be inverted into 110 volt AC to drive the camera motor."
