NX27998 Lance Bombardier Richard Arthur Howse. Lance Bombardier Howse became a prisoner of war (POW) of the Japanese and was one of hundreds of Australian and British prisoners of war selected to move from camps in Thailand to Japan aboard the Rakuyo Maru. He died on 13 September 1944 after the Rakuyo Maru was sunk by a US submarine on 12 September 1944.
