Ephemera
Description
The Memorial’s Ephemera Collection ranges from colonial conflicts through to the present day and includes postcards collected by service personnel, commercial and other souvenirs, leaflets produced by the military and antiwar organisations, certificates, cigarette and trade cards, local and international cartoons, propaganda posters and more. It gives an insight into Australia’s conflicts through the lens of the printed material produced at the time that was expected to only have only a brief period of usefulness or popularity. Although not produced to be retained, ephemera is an important record of social life, popular culture and local history.
