Flt Lt Cowan, aged 25, Flt Sgt West, aged 21, Flt Sgt O'Connell, aged 23, Sgt Feltham, Flt Sgt Brown, aged 21, with Sgt Jack Sheffield, RAF, and 429503 Flt Sgt Arthur Albert Summers, were the crew of Lancaster ND 729 radio call sign PO-L. On the night of 24 June 1944, ND 729 left RAF Waddington to bomb flying bomb launch sites at Prouville, France. The aircraft was hit by flak and broke up over Mareuil-Caubert, France. All seven were killed.
