During celebrations in the city for VJ (Victory over Japan) Day, an enthusiastic digger is at the front of the crowd lining Swanston Street, waving flags amid streamers. Although discharged in 1944 the man, ex- V301056 Private Melbourne Bourke Saunders, 22nd Employment Company, had donned his uniform and travelled into the city to take part in the celebrations.
