Group portrait of members (one officer and six other ranks) of the Darwin Detachment with members (one officer and eleven other ranks) of the 9 Heavy Battery RAA who were garrisoning Green Hill Fort at the time. Identified are 64 Lieutenant Ernest Karl Hans Klose, officer commanding 9 Heavy Battery RAA (front row centre); Warrant Officer I A Sheppard of the Darwin Detachment (front row, second from left); VX25593 Corporal (later Warrant Officer Class 2) David Francis (Frank) Smith, Darwin Detachment (middle row, far right) who died as a prisoner of war (POW) in Thailand 25 August 1943.) The other five members of the Darwin Detachment are Artificers Septimus William Garling; NX1106 Donald Gibson Smeal; W J Ross; H J Latimer; F Winter, but their exact position is unknown.
