Show of firepower 7 Task Force DPR/TV/1488
Citizen Military Force and Regular Army units turned on a precision bombardment demonstration for 600 CMF troops now training in the Tin Can Bay area, east of Gympie in Queensland. The troops are members of the Queensland-based 7 Task Force. The gallery included a party of high school cadets from the Toowoomba and Warwick areas. Combat atmospheric conditions were created by the use of flame throwers and smoke bombs. Machine guns and heavier weapons mounted on tracked vehicles from the 2/14th Queensland Mounted Infantry, Royal Australian Armoured Corps, raked and pounded a series of targets on the main firing range. All targets, which included bunker systems and disused vehicle bodies were destroyed. The mortar platoon from the Eighth Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, also turned in a skilled display on varied types of objectives. The 14th Battery, of 5 Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery, were the "heavies" of the demonstration. Using 25-pounders, they blasted a hillside sector with nearly 200 rounds. At the other end of the weaponry scale, the demonstration covered the use of small arms.
