Melbourne, Vic. 1942-03. Sergeant (Sgt) Herbert William (Bert) Smith is welcomed home at Spencer Street Station by family members, his wife Liliane Smith and his mother Margaret Smith, who is carrying a small Australian flag. Sgt Smith went to Rabaul as a member of 2/22nd Battalion and escaped from Rabaul to return to Australia in March 1942. (Donor J. Smith)
