719 Corporal William Henry Mansfield, enlisted in Sydney on 30 August 1914 in 'F' Company, 1 Battalion, AIF. He was thirty six years old and had been working as a miner. He later served in 4 Pioneer Battalion, AIF. Mansfield was awarded the Military Medal on 14 December 1916 at Flers, France. The citation reads, 'Corporal MANSFIELD has been working during the past month with parties on formation work for DECAUVILLE Tramway, between Brigade Headquarters and Bulls Road, under direct observation, being shelled more or less every day, and his coolness under fire has had a marked effect on the morale of the men working under him, and also on the progress of the work'. Mansfield was discharged on 19 June 1918.
