McNamee, Edward Michael (Private)
Description
Diary of 1590 Private Edward Michael McNamee (D Company, 9th Battalion) for 1916. Following summary notes of his involvement at Gallipoli the previous year, the diary records his experiences in Egypt before crossing to France in April. Its short daily entries later describe his experiences of trench fighting at Pozieres (July), Hill 60 at Ypres (September-October) and Flers, near Bapaume (November). It includes some notes for 1917. McNamee enlisted in December 1914 and survived the war, returning to Australia in 1919.
