Description
Diary titled "diary of field services on the Owen Stanley-Buna campaign, 1942", covering the period of June 1942 to March 1943. Typewritten entries describe the medical duties at various places while retreating, and then advancing along the Kokoda Trail. Entries particularly describe the poor health and exhaustion of the carriers used on the Track, and also mention administering aid to villagers, sanitation conditions, and working despite attacks of fever. Additional handwritten entries, on reverse sides of typewritten pages, include: notes on quarantine issues, especially the vaccination of difficult patients, staff issues and orders, and a hand-drawn map: "Operations at Kokoda 28/29 July 1942".
