Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. 1968-03. Private Brian Wheeler, 22, of Lockleys, SA, mans a radio set on top of Hill 323, which had just been secured by members of 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), during Operation Pinnaroo in the Long Hai Hills in the south-east of Phuoc Tuy Province. The Australian flag was raised on the rocky peak to signify the first time Australian troops had operated in the hills. Note the flag flying in the background.
