Description
A line up of four Curtiss P-40E Warhawk (aka Kittyhawk in British Commonwealth service) fighter aircraft of the 7th Squadron, United States Army Air Force (USAAF) 49th Fighter Group. The aircraft closest to the camera, number 51, L'Ace, was flown by Lieutenant James Bruce Morehead who shot down seven Japanese aircraft while flying out of Darwin with the 8th Squadron in the 49th Fighter Wing. Captain W.J. Hennon, who has shot down at least five Japanese aircraft, is sitting in the cockpit of Kittyhawk number 36. Both pilots have qualified as ace, having shot down at least five enemy aircraft.
