Description
"A view of the ruined village of Hamel, in France, on July 5th, 1918, after its capture by the troops of the 11th Australian Infantry Brigade. The tank in the street assisted in the mopping up of the village, but subsequently during the fighting was put out of action by a shell breaking the offside caterpillar" (Official caption). The tank is a Mark V Male. Contrary to the official caption, the left hand track (the nearside) is entirely missing.
