Portrait of N108358 (later NX149078) Gunner Wilburt (or Wilbert) Thomas 'Darky' Hudson MM of Graystanes, NSW, 2nd Anti Aircraft Battery, holding a standard issue .303 rifle with a bayonet. On 19 February 1942, Gunner Hudson was involved in the action when members of Berrimah Section shot down a Japanese Zero aircraft which was strafing the area over Darwin. For his action he received a Military Medal, one of the first awarded on Australian soil. On 16 June 1942, he was one of five men who were burned while defending the naval oil storage tanks, becoming known as one of the "Burns Boys".
